I came across this really great article today on The Guardian website - 'The role of social media in community building and development' It explores how despite the increasing importance of social networks, community development needs to take place both on and offline.
I saw a talk from a guy who worked for Amnesty International a few months ago and he cited the exact same argument; that we can all get carried away with technology, but remember we shouldn't alienate those who don't have access to it.
We still need to interact, talk and get to know each other away from our laptops, tablets and mobiles. Actual human contact is just as import as the having 500+ friends, or followers on Facebook and Twitter.

I totally agree with you. Social media has become such a HUGE thing in today's society. And it's almost scary how addicted people are becoming to it. And I don't know if I think it's cool or scary that facebook knows so much about you that they can perfectly target the right ads to you. I'm sure every ppc agency and seo firm and online marketing company out there loves this, but let's leave it to them and get off facebook and go out and enjoy the nice weather with your good friends!
I agree with both of you guys. Social media is so big these days, that i feel like it's getting a little bit out of hand sometimes. People need to re-prioritize their lives a little bit i think. However, social media do make great platforms to practice both inorganic and organic seo services on. Can't deny that.
